hi there, please excuse my use of english Ive just moved to the Netherlands! also I'm not sure if I have the right area for this question but I need some help with insurance. I cant seem to find home insurance to cover a bike worth about €4k, and also I am going on holiday next week and so would like some travel insurance to cover the bike. Does anyone have any recommendations? thanks!

Welcome!

tacky issue :(

My bikes are insured as long as they're inside(behind a proper door with a proper lock) my house or the shed in my garden. This is covered under my household insurrance.(is that the right translation voor inboedelverzekering?)
On holdiday's they're not insured, the travel insurrance only covers for € 750,- each bike......by far not enough off course.
A bike specific insurrance is way to expensive and you need to install a specified ART lock to your bike.

For example if you want to cover a Cannondale worth € 4100 the insurrance will cost you, for 3 years theft only, € 370,- (ANWB)
I'm not sure if the bike is covered also outside the netherlands.

My advice:
Be very carefull where to park your bike and buy a very good removeable lock and forget about the insurrance. Make sure you can also lock your bike inside the car. It's easier to open a car than to steal a properly locked bike

thanks for the info! Can I ask what your home insurance company is? I tried univee but they wouldnt insure the bike. It was only to leave in my house, I dont really intend on leaving anywhere else.

As for holidays I was most worried about losing it at the airport, I know thats happened to other people. I guess I will have to trust easyjet...
But thanks for the info, I will have to take a read of the forums and check out the biking over here...

hi there

its me again. I managed to get some home insurance but still need some travel insurance to cover mountain biking overseas - anyone know any Dutch insurance companies to cover this (at least for accidents, if not the bike)

thanks!

for accidents you're medical costs are covered in the travelinsurrance.(be sure that MTB is covered as companies might see MTB as a high risk sport and therefor you'll probably have to pay more)
To insure a bike on trip abroad might be difficult, mines are hardly insured while on holidays, 750 euro's per bike with a maximum of 2 bikes.
I just bougth a very thick, in oil cooked chain which is hard to cut and impossible to cut whit a hooked grinder they say.....

can't help you any futher than this.

ANWB used to have a specific bike-travel insurance... Don't know if they cover up to 4k however...

thanks for your help guys. so when you say travelinsurance do you mean with my normal health cover I have in the Netherlands? Thats handy if I'm covered.
Maybe I can keep my bike on the seat next to me on the plane...
